October 22nd, 2004 - So one day Dan, Krista, Walter, Nicole, and I got the bright idea to go walk up a mountain. (What were we thinking?! Pfft!) We stayed at Dan and Krista's parent's summer house [thank you Margie family!] in Wells, NY. We hiked Snowy Mtn which is part of the Indian Lake Range in the Southern Adirondacks. The hike is ~2100 feet vertical to a final elevation of 3900 feet. A round-trip of ~7.5 miles which required about 4 hours up and 3 back down. The last 1/2 mile to the top is the toughest, as you ascend almost 1000 feet in this short span. It's steep enough that you need to use your hands and upper body to make the climb. (Don't expect many pictures from this portion as I was, uhh, pre-occupied with *not dying*! Haa!) |
